Hybrid, synthetic or maybe natural? Soft99 guide to waxes

Many car owners take a seasonal approach to car care. When it gets warm in spring, they tend to think about properly washing their car, and when winter rolls around, they think about reliable paintwork protection. At these times, there’s always that big question that arises: which car wax to choose? As world-class car wax pros, we have one simple piece of advice for you – take care of your car all year round! And in this blog post, we will help you choose the right car care product for your needs. Mind you, there are more than a dozen of waxes in our offer, so you’ll definitely find something for yourself!

Although it's not a general rule, car waxes are probably the easiest to divide by the season in which they are meant to be used. Here we suggest dividing the year into 3 main seasons: SUMMER, WINTER and TRANSITION PERIOD (Spring / Autumn).

Keep it natural

The summer season is definitely the most pleasant one. Conditions for working on a car are perfect even if we do not have a garage, the car is easy to keep clean, we are not threatened by road salt, sand or excessive humidity, and we can fully focus on the look of the car. So what’s the best car wax in this case? Go natural! For example, beeswax or Carnauba wax, obtained from the leaves of Brazilian Copernicia palm, that you’ll find inside Authentic Premium wax. Its composition guarantees a simple and pleasant application, almost zero risk of misadventures, great water repellency, perfect gloss and depth of the paintwork. And what about durability? 4 weeks, but that's still solid for a Carnauba-wax, and it’s still quite a lot of waiting for the next application. ;)

Synthetic means solid

Let us now think of a completely different time of the year and assume that winter is approaching. In the European climate, this means several months of road grime, salt, mud and omnipresent dirt. The unfavourable conditions can also mean that we may not be able to wash the car for a few weeks, let alone wax it. If the look of the car has to take a back seat, it’s good to take care of a solid protection of the paintwork, so that you don’t have to repeat the application over the next few months. In such a situation there is only one direction – synthetic waxes! Their formula is based only on artificially obtained ingredients such as polymers, or additionally they use legendary Fusso technology developed by Soft99, based on extremely durable Teflon polymer (PTFE). The synthetic formula guarantees durability counted in months (sometimes even up to 12!), resistance to weather conditions, as well as road salt and acid rain. These waxes strongly repel water and even oily dirt, so it is easier to keep a car clean or wash it after winter. Application may require more attention and proper conditions, but you can always choose a product according to your needs and possibilities.

Best of both worlds, hybrid waxes

There are still two seasons left that we dubbed “transitional”. During these we can expect both winter-like temperatures and sunny days. Which wax should we choose for our car in such a diverse season? A hybrid one, i.e. one which combines the features of synthetic and natural waxes. The synthetic base is usually enriched with Carnauba wax, thanks to which we obtain a durable product, but also one that perfectly emphasises the look of the paintwork. Durability-wise, hybrid waxes usually stay on the paintwork for up to about 3 months, and offer increased resistance to weather conditions, plus excellent water repellency. Easy and pleasant application should also not cause any problems for less experienced detailers.
